Those are the names of some of the new layer cakes I have in the shop. If you don't know what a layer cake is it's a package of 40 10" squares, usually one square from each of the prints in a collection. They are fabulous for making quilts and other small projects.

For a limited time I have brand new layer cakes on sale for $29.00 per package. These full collections are not available until September and October so consider these layer cakes as a "sneek peek" of what's to come.

I have marked the Freebird layer cake down to $29.00 as well so that all layer cakes in my store are $29.00 for a limited time.

Blogger's Quilt Festival- Birthday Quilt

I finished this quilt almost a year ago but thought it would be fun to share it with everyone again.

This is my 4th or 5th quilt which was made for my 4th daughter's 1st birthday. I love the pink/brown combination and used some of my hoarded fabrics that I had been hanging onto for awhile. It was quite difficult for me to come up with the color combination in this quilt. I got out all of my pinks and laid them next to each other trying to figure out what solid color I wanted to use for the focus blocks. I must of had those piles of pink fabric laying on the floor for a month before I finally decided on brown.

I really enjoyed quilting this quilt and learned a lot. I decided that the stippling was much too small and close together. I think it took around 8 hours to quilt the whole thing and it's only a 45" square. I also learned that I really liked quilting. I was so proud of myself after I had finished it and then washed and dried it. It looked so cool coming out of the drier all wrinkly and pretty.

I'm looking forward to making many more quilts. My daughters have all requested one of their own. So far, I have finished one more quilt and am working on another.

Ice Cream Dress

This is my first completed item for the "Kids Clothes Week Challenge". It is the Oliver and S Ice Cream Dress made with Happy Campers fabric from American Jane. Love this dress!! The pattern was very easy to follow and the results were great as all Oliver and S patterns are.

Next up is some shorts from a Japanese craft book I have.

What a "Sweet" Quilt

I finally finished this quilt for S that I started last year. I knew when I was working on the top that I wanted to machine quilt it but figured I would need a little practice first. I practiced by quilting 2 baby size quilts and 2 doll size quilts. When I felt confident enough in my stippling abilities I decided it was time to get this quilt finished.

I love the crinkliness that using cotton batting creates. It's perfectly smooth before washing but as soon as you wash it it transforms into something totally different. Love it!!

For those wanting details the pattern I used is Dessert Time by Quilt in a Day.

I used fabric from the "Sweet" collection from Urban Chiks and the batting is Kyoto Bamboo Blend from Moda.

This quilt really got me hooked to machine quilting and quilting in general. I really enjoyed the process of stippling and stitching the binding on by hand. Now all my girls want quilts of their own.

It's been a while since I have posted. I am setting a goal to start posting regularly and I have a lot to write about. I have lots of new fabric in the store, I just finished machine stippling my first twin size quilt, I have a new sewing machine coming...

First, I would like to say that Claire from Portabellopixie is finally back in stock after 3 months of waiting. What a cute pattern!!

I just received a new collection from Moda called "Half Moon". It has 20 different black and white prints: 10 prints with white backgrounds and 10 prints with black backgrounds. I also have charm packs, jelly rolls, and should be receiving a fat quarter bundle today.

This fabric has a really nice hand to it and is a bit heavier than some of Moda's other quilting cottons. It weighs almost 6 ounces per yard while some of Moda's other collections (like Wonderland and Hushabye) are less than 5 ounces per yard. I'm looking forward to seeing what people create with this collection!

Is it a skirt?

I received some new patterns in my store a few weeks ago and I thought I would try one since they look soooo cute. This is my version of the Tessa Bloomers from Marie- Madeline Studio.

This is a size 4 and is made from 6.5 ounce denim from Robert Kaufman. They look like a skirt from the side. My girls love them and they all want a pair now. I would like to try one in a pretty quilters cotton next.

The pattern is well written and super easy. I had no trouble whatsoever. They took me an hour give or take to finish them.

Happy 1st Birthday To My Sweet Girl

It's hard to believe my baby girl is a year old. She's walking and talking and is adored by her 3 big sisters.

This is the quilt I made for her. I am sooooooo proud of it. It's my first try at machine stippling and I must say I think I did a good job. Next time, I will try to make the stippling bigger. It's pretty small.

The pattern is "Simple Modern Baby Quilts" from Oh Fransson.

What a great pattern!! It's very detailed and was just what I was looking for to help me try free motion quilting. I highly recommend it.

Modkid Kyoko is done!!

I finished the Modkid Kyoko pattern in size 6. I love love love this pattern!! I followed the directions to a t (except for lengthening the skirt 2 inches) and it turned out fabulous. I love the look of the striped bias tape. I think it really pulls the fabrics together.

My one complaint is that my fabric was not wide enough for the belt to be cut out on the fold. I did it anyways but it made my belt an inch or two shorter than it was supposed to be. Next time if this happens I may piece the belt or perhaps cut it out with the belt running parralel to the selvedge instead of perpendicular to it. Hope that made sense :) It looks fine but my 6 year old is super skinny. I would have loved to have the ends of the belt closer together.

All of these fabrics are from Basic Grey's Sultry collection from Moda. I have these fabrics plus the pattern available in my shop.

I would love to try the Frida dress next. I've seen some lovely Frida's popping up in Modkid's Flickr group.

Tracing patterns

I enjoy tracing patterns. I usually set myself up on the kitchen counter. Another method I have been known to do is lay a big piece of heavy plywood on top of the piano bench and then put my cutting mat on top of the board. That just keeps my surface smooth. Plywood is kind of rough. I like to do this setup in front of the tv. I'll trace out 4 or 5 things at a time when I do this method since it's harder to get setup than when I just use the counter top.

These pictures are taken using the counter top "method". I'm tracing out Modkids Kyoko and Oliver and S Birthday dress. Both are for my 6-year old. And yes, those are tuna cans and various other cans swiped from the kitchen cupboard. Those are my "weights" so that my tracing material doesn't slip while I am tracing.

This is the very first blog post I have ever written!!! I thought it would be fun to keep a "diary" of my crafting adventures. Welcome!!

I made this purse for my daughter's friend's 9th birthday. The pattern is from Keykalou's Pixie Handbag pattern found here.

This pattern is terrific!! The purse turned out perfect and the directions were very easy to understand. I highly recommend it. The only thing I changed was to lengthen the strap to 27".

Their friend LOVED it!! I will be making many more of these.
